Review – Barry Ward
This after-season Christmas offering from The Bear includes four Ward originals and an Orin Friesen co-write along with some not often heard works of others. It just means more to discover, right? In fact the only selections you are guaranteed to know are “Silent Night,” “White Christmas” and “Feliz Navidad” (performed with kids from Kansas’ Alpha Christian Children’s Home). Other musicians backing Ward (vocals & guitar) in the effort are Jesse L. Friesen (guitars, mandolin, banjo, percussion,
harmony vocals); Keith Burditt (harmonica); Rob Loren (fiddle, mandolin); Bobby Edwards (electric piano, organ); W. C. Edgar (steel guitar) and Mike Theobold (banjo). The production and performances mirror the professionalism you would expect from a Barry Ward project and the focus is solidly where pious Christmas celebrants prefer it to be. Eleven tracks.
